When we got Phil’s report back we realised he had a gifted profile that was adaptable to both Endurance and Power, his VO2 max was not what he expected however in relation to his power and endurance muscle types it was not a massive drawback, especially considering his genetics showed a fast recovery rate.
Phil was training in a very common hypertrophy based manner with sets of similar reps with rest periods that were probably more suited to his training partner at the time.
Nutritionally Phil came back with a good tolerance to Carbohydrates meaning we could utilise this as part of the programme upping his calories by 500-1000 per day, we had faith in the test that Phil would not gain excess fat from this intervention.
Training interventions included a specialised reverse pyramid hitting both power and endurance aspects to make sure Phil was hitting his full muscle fibre types and therefore getting the most out of his training.
